There are moments when I look at my kids and realize what individuals they are. Though each comes from the same parents, they have characteristics and personalities all their own. But, there are those moments when I catch a glimpse of my husband in my son’s enthusiasm or in the baby’s dimples, or my own expressions in my daughter. How are they at one moment their own selves and the next moment carbon copies of us? This combination of unique replication is such a fascinating part of parenthood. And, so, for today, I offer just a simple quote:

“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.” ~ Jodi Picoult, Perfect Match
