“Parenting is a series of best guesses.”

I couldn’t agree more with Asha Dornfest, as she writes in her new book “Parent Hacks: 134 Genius Shortcuts for Life with Kids.” Parenting is full of guesses and any book that offers helpful tips and tricks for making it through this journey of parenthood is worth a read, at least in my opinion. And the book doesn’t disappoint. My only disappointment was that I didn’t read this before I had kids!

Parent Hacks: 134 Genius Shortcuts for Life with Kids

The book is full of of parent hacks submitted by actual parents. I found myself saying, “hmmm” and making mental notes as I flipped through it. Here are just a few highlights….

What I wish I would’ve known:

How to make an inexpensive DIY pregnancy pillow.
Take a dirty onesie off from top to bottom.
Keep a spatula beside the toilet to remove solid waste from a cloth diaper.

What I plan to try:

Use toothpaste on the back of a picture to know where to place the nail in the wall.
Hang a tension rod on the inside of the shower to use for hanging wet swimsuits.
Trick the auto-flush toilet sensor by hanging toilet paper over it.

…and of course there’s much more, but I’m not going to spoil it all for you!

This little book is great for new and seasoned parents, especially with kids ages 8 and under. Definitely check it out as a baby shower gift because what new parent can’t use a few tricks of the trade?!
