We all have certain expectations of how labor and delivery will go, but rarely does the actual experience match those notions. From long, hard labors to emergency c-sections, try as we might, forces beyond our control can challenge those ideas.
As for myself, I made sure I exercised plenty during pregnancy, knowing that physical fitness can reduce labor time. I was also told that contractions can feel like bad menstrual cramps. Well, since I never experienced those and I was physically active, I assumed I would have a quick and possibly low-pain labor. Instead, I endured 16 hours of excruciating back labor and gut-wrenching birth pains. And it all ended with a vacuum extraction…something I never thought I’d call for after I had the chance to examine the device up close during our birthing classes.
So how did your labor and delivery differ from how you thought (or hoped) it would be?
