Dear Mom Be StillDear Mom, Be Still

This is going to be short and sweet.

It’s a simple reminder and some encouragement to just

be

still.

This is something I needed to remember a few days ago. After a busy morning, I found myself with 20 minutes of alone time. The girls were napping and my son would be home from school soon. I could check my email. I could dig into a deadline. I could throw a load of laundry into the machine. I could finish crocheting that Christmas scarf. But instead, I was reminded of the words that were on my mind when I woke that morning, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

And, so I sat on the couch and stared out the window. I listened to the ticking of the clock. I watched the naked trees wave in the wind. I petted the cat. And I breathed. I took a few minutes to just

be

still.

I needed those moments desperately, as I know you do as well.

Life as a mom is full of frenzy. On top of that, the holiday season can whisk away our attention and our agenda. But instead, take a few minutes to refocus and just

be

still.

Don’t worry if the kids look at you funny.  Ignore the text messages. Turn off the Facebook notifications. The world can wait. Take a few minutes to refresh and regroup and just

be

still.
