“Nursing was awful at first. I knew the proper procedures because of the breastfeeding class and a lactation consultant was at the hospital. But he just kept eating. He ate and ate. This was my 2nd day and I said to the nurse that he’s nursing for an hour and stopping for only 5 min. and wanting more. That nurse said I just needed to keep going. I was feeding him for 45 min., having 15 min. break and then feeding again. I was losing skin and tissue. I am crying and I asked for the nurse and said I can’t do this. The new nurse corrected it and said I needed to stop. That was difficult, when you try to listen, you get some good and some bad advice.”~ Beth Smith

If there’s one thing we’ve heard in our interviews of moms, it’s that breastfeeding, though a natural process, can seem anything but natural at first. For many of the moms we’ve spoken to, the beginning of nursing has included stress, tears and a period of adjustment. For Beth, she worked through that period of adjustment and ended up nursing her little guy for his first year.

With this being World Breastfeeding Week, we want to hear your story. Did you breastfeed? How did you make your decision? If you chose to, what was your experience like?
